May is the month that we celebrate Mother’s Day, Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day. During this time, we honor those who have sacrificed for their family and their nation. It is personal dedication and commitment to strong family values that propels this nation to provide the freedoms that we all enjoy.
In 1949, President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish a single holiday for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country. Armed Forces Day stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under the Department of Defense. Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson said, “Saturday, May 20, 1950, marks the first combined demonstration by America's defense team of its progress, under the National Security Act, towards the goal of readiness for any eventuality.” We will celebrate Armed Forces Day on May 21st.
May 30th, we celebrate Memorial Day by remembering those who have died in service of the United States of America. Originally called Decoration Day, Memorial Day stemmed from the Civil War and the desire to honor our fallen heroes. No words can express how thankful we are to those that made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Our desire is to serve you. All of us at Corvias Military Living appreciate and thank you!
Last month we kicked off the Grand Opening of Mojave Sky Community Center. With the completion of the center we expect it to serve as the epicenter of family housing - a place where friends and family can come together and share a true sense of community. We are excited to offer the amenities to our Airmen and families. If you haven’t stopped by, we would like to invite you to tour the Community Center and greet your Community Office team. The Community Center is open Monday- Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. The Fitness Center and Gym can be accessed from 6:00 am to 8:00 p.m. Additionally, contact us at 661-385-6060 to reserve the Multi-Purpose Room and/or the Club Room for birthday parties, graduation parties or any occasion. It is free to use, we just need a $100.00 deposit for cleaning/damage charges.
The Corvias Community Pool opens on Monday, May 30. If you haven’t already, stop by a pick up your pool pass. The pool is open Tuesday through Sunday, 11:00 am-7:00 pm. Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. We look forward to a great pool season with our residents.

Physical activity is an essential component of a healthy lifestyle for individuals and families. Thirty minutes of vigorous activity is recommended for adults while children need 60 minutes of play with moderate to vigorous activity level. The combination of physical activity and healthy food choices can help prevent a variety of diseases, maintain a healthy weight, build lean muscle and promote strong bone, muscle and joint development.
Individuals and families can incorporate fun and engaging activities into their everyday routine to help reach their physical activity goals. As summer approaches and you start to plan your summer vacations, think about planning an active vacation. Going to the beach? Instead of merely going to the beach, look for other activities such as fishing excursions, sports activities or biking along the beach you can include into your vacation time. Planning a trip to another city? Explore the city through a walking tour, skate at the local park, visit the zoo or amusement park. Camping is another active vacation that can challenge your physical activity while still having a great time relaxing.
There are many activities ranging from swimming, walking / running or biking you can do within your local community to help get you and your family active. For more information about the local activities click here.
How can you become more energy-conscious in your home? Turn off all lights, electronics and appliances when not in use. Invest in power strips so you have the ability to turn of multiple electronics at once! Even the smallest things can make a huge impact!
Your community calendar can help you stay up-to-date on trash, recycling, lawn care, resident events and community activities.
You can even sync your community calendar with a personal Google calendar by clicking on the +Google button on the bottom right-hand corner of the calendar.
