May is the month that we celebrate Mother’s Day, Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day. During this time, we honor those who have sacrificed for their family and their nation. It is personal dedication and commitment to strong family values that propels this nation to provide the freedoms that we all enjoy.
Mother’s Day will be celebrated on May 8, 2016. Thanks to Anna Jarvis, who in 1908, fought for an official day to celebrate the matriarchs in our families.
In 1949, President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish a single holiday for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country. Armed Forces Day stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under the Department of Defense. Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson said, “Saturday, May 20, 1950, marks the first combined demonstration by America's defense team of its progress, under the National Security Act, towards the goal of readiness for any eventuality.” We will celebrate Armed Forces Day on May 21st.
May 30th, we celebrate Memorial Day by remembering those who have died in service of the United States of America. Originally called Decoration Day, Memorial Day stemmed from the Civil War and the desire to honor our dead. No words can express how thankful we are to those that made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Our desire is to serve you. All of us at Corvias Military Living appreciate and thank you!
Scooping doo-doo is just part of having a dog. Before owning a dog, I never thought too much about this task, but now I always pick up after my pets. It’s just the right thing to do! First of all, it wouldn’t be nice for me to leave the mess there for somebody to step in, and second of all, dog poop is a hazardous pollutant, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Here are a few facts about the dangers of dog poop! Please clean up after your pet, it’s your responsibility!
It's Official! We have moved! Come see us at the new community center at 2950 Azalea Drive located across from the CDC off Boatner Road. Please follow all construction and safety signs. We look forward to serving you at our new location!
This is Titan. He is full of energy and rarely still for one minute. His owners, SSgt Thomas and Mrs. Thomas, say he is a sweetheart and loves everyone he meets.
These odd-looking mammals are about the size of a cat. They thrive in the warm climate with plenty of food and ideal living conditions. Armadillos are often considered to be a nuisance because they are diggers and can damage lawns and flowerbeds in their search for grubs, and primary food source. They are not desirable to have near a residence or business because they carry many diseases and bacteria. To reduce armadillos in your yard, keep watering and fertilization to a minimum. If you are having issues with armadillos in your yard, please notify your Community office. More information can be found here
Don’t forget! Applications for the Corvias Foundation $5,000 Educational Grants for spouses of active-duty service members are due Thursday, May 5th. The application is available online at corviasfoundation.org.
How can you become more energy-conscious in your home? Turn off all lights, electronics and appliances when not in use. Invest in power strips so you have the ability to turn of multiple electronics at once! Even the smallest things can make a huge impact!
