We have many new families that have joined us here at Edwards AFB during the big PCS season. We would like to welcome each of you and thank you for allowing us to meet you and your family’s housing needs. One of the best things about military life is the opportunity to explore. There are several resources to help you get familiar with the surrounding areas. The Corvias team has compiled a list of articles with tools and suggestions for our military families to help transition during a PCS. Click here to review the articles on our blog. Don’t forget to also check out Edwards Airman & Family Readiness Center to see what is happening in your backyard.
It seems as though summer has just begun, when in fact it is almost over and school is back in session. As our communities continue to fill with soldiers and families, I would like to ask that all residents be on the alert for children on their way to and from school. To help ensure the safety of our children, please remember to pay attention to the posted speed limits in the neighborhoods.
Thank you for your service and for allowing us to serve your family.
The kids are back in school, the weather is starting to cool and the leaves are changing colors. All of this can only mean one thing, fall has arrived! In order to get everyone into the spirit, Corvias invites you to join us for our annual Fallapalooza event at Mojave Sky Community Center, 1365 Fitz-Gerald on Friday, September 23 from 3-6pm. There will be family friendly games, food and much more. Contact your Community Office or visit our Facebook page for additional details.
Community Park is currently undergoing renovations and is projected to be completed this fall. Keep your eye out for the re-opening of the park! Residents will have the ability to enjoy new and updated features which includes 8 fitness stations, a discovery garden labyrinth, large and small dog park and many other features.
Come enjoy the pool for the last few days this summer! Labor Day will be the end of pool season for all Corvias community pools. The pools will be open from 11 am-7:30 pm on Labor Day, September 5.
Service Members and their families are strong and face many adventures throughout their military career. Military life can also be stressful at times and some may start to feel isolated, overwhelmed, or angry when dealing with challenging situations. These reactions can be common responses to life events. However, these feelings may be signs of more serious conditions. People coping with challenges may feel like there is no escape from their symptoms, leading them to have thoughts of suicide. If you or someone you know is experiencing a crisis call 1-800-273-TALK (8255) – press ‘1’ for the Military Crisis Line or send a text to 838255. You can also visit http://www.militarycrisisline.net.
If you or someone you know is talking about suicide get them assistance immediately with these three steps – Ask, Care, Escort. Ask your loved one if they are thinking of killing themselves. Care for your loved one – actively listen to show understanding, remove any means that could be used for self-injury. Escort your loved one – never leave them alone! Escort them to their chain of command, a chaplain, a behavioral health professional, or primary care provider.
Do you know how much water a 4-minute shower uses? 20-40 gallons! Conserve water and take shorter showers or turn the faucet off between soaping and rinsing.
